Welcome to the Jonathan Briant Room - A room that combines historic charm with contemporary comfort. The room is named after Jonathan Briant (1726-1810), a central figure in the founding of Christiansfeld and one of Brødremenighedens's most prominent leaders of the 18th century.

The story behind the room

Jonathan Briant was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1726 in a family that had emigrated from France as Huguenots. His life took a fateful turn when in 1748 he joined Brødremenigheden in Herrnhut, and became a strong and faithful leader. In 1770 he was sent to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he played a central role in Brødremenighedens work in Denmark and the creation of Christiansfeld. Briant was the driving force behind the building of the city's foundations and the development of what is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After many years of work in Christiansfeld and Copenhagen, Briant returned to Herrnhut, where he completed his service and died in 1810. His dedication to Brødremenigheden and his visionary work left a mark that is still felt in Christiansfeld and the surrounding areas.
