Christina Fridericia Suite

Welcome to the Christina Fridericia Suite - A room that combines historic grandeur with modern comfort. The suite is named after Christina Fridericka of Holstein (1741-1812), a noblewoman known for her deep faith, charity and connection to Brødremenigheden in Christiansfeld.

The story behind the suite

• Christina Friederica von Holstein was born into the distinguished Danish noble Ahlefeldt family. She married her cousin, Chamberlain Christina Friederica von Holstein in 1764 and their marriage was recognised as a “perfect union”, which was a rare honour at the time.

In the late 1700s, her husband lost his position in the civil service after the fall of Struensee, and the couple bought Farvervrågård near Christiansfeld. While her husband was often away, Christina found comfort and meaning in Brødremenighedens strong community. After his death in 1798, she dedicated her life and large fortune to charity. Among other things, she donated Farvervrågård and considerable funds to Brødremenigheden and the construction of Haderslev County Hospital.

Her final resting place was Christinero, a small forest she created herself as a peaceful place for reflection. Here she still sits in the spirit of the pavilion “My Thoughts”, where she spent many hours in contemplation during her lifetime.
