The room is named after King Christian X (1870-1947), one of Denmark's most beloved monarchs, who played a central role in the reunification of Southern Jutland and the unity of the country during the occupation.

The story behind the room

Christian X was born on 26 September 1870 and became King of Denmark in 1912. His reign was characterised by both dramatic events and deep popular love. In 1920, after the vote in Southern Jutland, he became the symbol of hope and unity when he received the Southern Jutlanders“ welcome speech and gave Denmark back part of the lost land. His speech on 10 July 1920, where he said: ”Welcome home!", marked a great and emotional moment for both Denmark and Southern Jutland.

The king also had a strong connection to Christiansfeld, where he visited the Brødremenighedens Hotel several times, including in 1920, 1936 and 1939. His popularity increased further during the Occupation (1940-1945), when he became a symbol of national unity with his firm stand against the Germans. Christian X's last great moment as king was on 9 May 1945, when he reopened the Reichstag after the occupation.
